Prop 8

So this is kind of old news since it passed, but I feel the need to comment on something that has been really sad. As many have witnessed in the news there has been backlash against the church from those who voted no on prop 8, which has included demonstrations outside the temples in L.A. and in Salt Lake. Yet this is not what has upset me. The attitude of our fellow brothers and sisters in the church is what has really upset me. It is surprises me that the mouth piece of the Lord (President Monson) could call on the members of the church to show their support for prop 8 and the sanctity of marriage and that there would be those who would turn around and say that the church has no right interfering in the matter or that all people should have the right to marry who they may. Despite the well documented problems that homosexual marriages cause in the family and society at large, I would think that the word of the Lord should be enough. Why is it that a Latter-day saint will follow the commandment to go to church, partake of the sacrament, read scriptures, serve in callings, go to the temple, etc., yet feels that the commandments of God do not apply to Prop 8? It's really sad to me to see this happening to our brothers and sisters. I guess this stands as a witness of what happens when people stop listening to the prophet. My hope is that these members may be awakened to a sense of their err and that they may stand strong in defense of the Gospel and the sanctity of the family. I hope I have not offended any who are members of the church who might have opposed proposition 8, it is not my intent.
